Eco-Fashion Design Contest

A collaborative project of VenturaVie and Salt Tree Art

SUBMISSIONS FOR DESIGNS ACCEPTED THROUGH JULY 2021

In a rapidly changing world, what is the future of fashion?

We offer a platform for these innovative concepts, showcasing creativity and hopefulness in addressing global challenges and amplifying the voices of up-and-coming designers who might otherwise not have access.

The contest will ask designers to imagine innovative fashion for the future, with a focus on the themes of beauty, resilience, and adaptation that speak to our shared ecological future. Interested artists will submit an original concept sketch (pre-existing pieces will not be eligible) for wearable works of fashion, accompanied by a short description of how their designs address the contest themes. Submissions will require a $21 entrance fee.

More information about the contest, as well as the submission form, will be available at: WearWeAreGoing.org

We want to showcase artists and designers at all stages of their careers, from students and amateurs to long-time professionals. Ten submissions will be chosen as finalists to build their design, competing for a $3,000 cash prize to be announced during a live fashion showcase event! Again, check out WearWeAreGoing.org for additional details, and to apply with your concept.

We are thrilled to partner with Kristen Griffith-VanderYacht as our program host. Kristen has been named one of the world's top florists by Harper's Bazaar, and he previously served as the head judge for the Big Flower Fight on Netflix.

We need you to spread the word about this contest! SHARE THIS Announcement, the event webpage, and our social media posts! Forward the contest to any aspiring eco-fashion designers you know!

Five years ago, an idea germinated to bring fashion, compassion and community together to elevate and support each other. Since the beginning, we serve the local and global community and respond to our changing world. We provide a safe and welcoming space, offer internships and summer camps for youth, jobs and a place for seniors to connect. We give goods and financial support to current needs like the North Bay Fire Relief and local coat drives. We’ve created a community space to deal with issues like sex trafficking and support artists and nature-flourishing projects. We partner with local organizations, giving young people real-time life opportunities including training in a retail environment and reaping immediate financial benefits for their time and efforts. We are proud of what we have accomplished in the last five years and with your continued support, we are excited about what more we can accomplish in 2021 and beyond. Below are some highlights of our programs and accomplishments in 2020. Please take a moment to continue our work by donating below.

Fashion.

V Boutique in the Cannery has been open on Saturdays and continues to offer both virtual and safely-distanced private shopping with us. In order to compensate for the shop's internship programs, we've pivoted to tech and taught our interns other valuable skills - how to sew and create uniquely beautiful masks. We have also reached out to our community of local quilters and seamstresses and received gorgeous cotton fabrics. This has allowed everyone to hone new skills and share the sisterhood of time-honored traditions.

Nature.

While we currently cannot do our monthly outdoor yoga classes in the Cannery given shelter in place, VenturaVie has continued to celebrate nature by taking it on the road. We host wellness and immunity-boosting garden events where we create herbal elixirs to keep us all healthy and strong. We have planted seeds at Zinc House Farm, growing food and teaching art and yoga classes to home-schooled youth.

Art.

We have created the HiVe, a virtual twice-weekly meeting house, to support and cultivate community through art and poetry. The result of these sessions has allowed us to respond to youth who lack the technology and the skills to adapt to our changing world. This has helped vulnerable youth receive internet capacity, computers, and desks. VenturaVie provides leadership both locally and globally via organizations like Vital Voices to help fill the needs in our evolving landscape.

2020 Recap

2020 required us to pivot, like everyone. One of the ways to fulfill our mission had us move into supporting and building community virtually. Through the creation of the hiVe, we support and cultivate our community. We connect twice a week and welcome all to join in. Our "bees" have created beautiful masks, many of which were donated to community members in need. We continue to partner with Vital Voices, beginning with hosting the International Women’s March last Spring and by encouraging young minds to brainstorm solutions to global problems. We look upward and onward with excited optimism for what we will accomplish in 2021 and beyond with your continued support. Keep your eye out how to reap the nectar of the hiVe, while helping to sustain it. Coming soon….
