Last night I took myself out to dinner. The hotel recommended nearby restaurant, Invictus.
It was an amazing experience for me on many fronts. I have rarely, if ever, eaten such a lovely meal alone. And certainly not in Paris. In this chic, elegant place at a table in the center, solo, I felt initially self-conscious. But as I savored each bite, and allowed all my senses to engage, I remembered what I was teaching the Balkan group about mindfulness. And Kabat’s “raisin exercise“(if you are unfamiliar, look it up about eating mindfully). And it felt easeful. And tasted divine. And suddenly over two hours had passed. and I enjoyed every mindful moment.
